Capacity building & independence support in Brisbane, Ipswich, Springfield & Logan

Capacity building support is about the direction of travel. Rather than doing a task for you indefinitely, we work on the skills, routines and confidence that reduce how much support you need over time. Progress is defined by you, reviewed openly, and never rushed to hit someone else’s timeline.

What this covers

What capacity building includes

A shift is shaped around what you need that day, not a fixed checklist. These are the things our workers most often help with.

  • Daily living skills — cooking, budgeting, shopping, laundry, organisation
  • Travel training and building public transport confidence
  • Building routines that hold up week to week
  • Confidence in social and community settings
  • Support to prepare for work, study or volunteering
  • Working alongside your allied health team on agreed goals

Is this right for you?

This support may suit you if…

We assess every enquiry properly before we take it on — including whether our workers can safely and reliably meet what you need. If the answer is no, we will tell you honestly rather than sign you up and struggle.

  • You have goals in your plan around independence, skills or confidence
  • You would rather build a skill than have a task done for you
  • You want progress reviewed honestly, including when something is not working
  • You live in Brisbane, Ipswich, Springfield, Logan or nearby

Common questions

Capacity building — questions people ask

What is the difference between core supports and capacity building?

Core supports help you complete daily activities now. Capacity building funds work that increases your independence over time — skills, confidence and routines. Many participants use both: a worker helps with today’s task while building the skill for next month.

How do you measure progress?

We agree what progress looks like in plain language at the start — for example, "catch the bus to TAFE without support by term three". Workers record notes each shift and we review against those goals with you, including when something is not working.

What if I want less support over time?

That is the point, and we will say so at review even when it means fewer billable hours. A provider that never recommends reducing support is not doing capacity building.
