Accessibility

We support people with disability. A website that is difficult to use would be a poor start, so accessibility is something we build in rather than bolt on. This page sets out what we have done, what we know still needs work, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.

Our commitment

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA across this website. That is the standard referenced by Australian government accessibility guidance, and it is the benchmark we test ourselves against.

What we have built in

  • Text and background colours meet WCAG 2.2 AA contrast requirements. Colour is never the only way information is conveyed.
  • The whole site can be operated with a keyboard alone, and the focus indicator is always visible.
  • Buttons, links and form options have large touch targets — the entire option card is tappable, not just a small circle.
  • Every form field has a real label. Errors are described in plain words, linked to their field, and announced to screen readers.
  • The enquiry form saves your answers as you go, so a mis-tap or an interruption does not cost you the whole form.
  • Headings follow a logical order, and a "skip to main content" link is the first thing a keyboard user reaches.
  • Animation is minimal, and is switched off entirely if your device is set to reduce motion.
  • Body text is set at a comfortable size and can be zoomed to 200% without breaking the layout.
  • The site works without JavaScript for reading. Only submitting the form needs it — and if it is unavailable, our phone number is shown instead.

What still needs work

Claiming a site is perfectly accessible is usually a sign nobody has tested it. Here is what we know is not there yet.

Third-party tools

If we add a chat widget or an embedded form from another provider, we do not control its accessibility. We will test anything before it goes live and remove it if it creates a barrier.

Easy Read information

We do not yet have an Easy Read version of our service information. We are working on it. In the meantime, ask us and we will talk you through anything on this site, or send it in a format that suits you.

Documents

Service agreements and other documents are provided on request in large print or another format you find easier. Just tell us what works for you.

Getting information another way

If anything on this website is hard to use, you do not have to struggle with it. We will give you the same information over the phone, by email, in large print, or in whatever format works better for you — and we will help you complete the enquiry form over the phone if that is easier.

You are also welcome to have a family member, carer, advocate or support coordinator contact us on your behalf.

Tell us if something does not work

If you hit a barrier on this site, please tell us what happened and what you were trying to do. We will fix it and let you know when it is done. Reports like this are genuinely useful — they are the fastest way we find problems.

If we do not resolve it

If you are not satisfied with how we respond, you can contact the Australian Human Rights Commission at humanrights.gov.au, which handles complaints under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. Concerns about the quality or safety of NDIS supports can be raised with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission at ndiscommission.gov.au. Contacting either will never affect the support you receive from Caring Nurses Australia.
